Henriquez announces transfer

Johnny Dawkins' basketball roster is getting smaller by the day.

Sophomore guard Adonys Henriquez is the latest defection, announcing on Tuesday night that he plans to transfer from UCF. The Orlando native averaged 10.1 points this past season and started in all 26 of the games he played in.

"I would like to start off by saying thank you UCF for this amazing opportunity," Henriquez said in a message posted to his personal Twitter and Instagram accounts. "The people I have met here are amazing and I appreciate the love and support I have received here in my two years. After talking it over with my family I think it's best to pursue other opportunities. The future is bright for UCF and I wish them nothing but the best."

In his debut in 2014-15, Henriquez averaged 10.8 points starting in 30 games and set a UCF freshman record for minutes played. He was one of two Knights - the other being point guard B.J. Taylor - to earn American Athletic Conference All-Rookie team honors that season.

Henriquez's departure follows Matt Williams, who announced his intentions a couple weeks ago. Williams, who would have been a senior, committed to Wake Forest on Monday as a fifth-year graduate transfer.

Barring no other roster changes, UCF has seven returning scholarship players, one signee (Jeremy Sheppard) and one incoming transfer (Aubrey Dawkins) which leaves four open scholarships.

Dawkins, on the job for less than a month after replacing Donnie Jones, has been pursuing several fifth-year transfers, including USC's Darion Clark who visited a couple weeks ago. Grand Canyon and Mississippi State are also finalists for Clark.
