Pennsylvania DL loves UCF visit, commits

Mason Cholewa came away extremely impressed with UCF after his visit on Tuesday.

The defensive lineman from Pittsburgh has been vacationing the last few days in Florida and on his final day they headed over to East Orlando to check things out.

The Knights have been on his list for a while, ever since defensive line coach Mike Dawson offered in April.

"We arrived about 9 a.m.," Cholewa said Tuesday afternoon while waiting inside the terminal at Orlando International Airport. "We talked to Coach Dawson, just about football in general. Then we rode around on a golf cart with Sean Dillon. He showed us the student center, the weight room, the locker room, the football field. We went over to the education side and talked to counselors, stuff like that. She told me I could graduate in three and a half years, so that was really good. We took a tour of the dorms. I was very impressed by the dorms. I've been on a lot of visits and these are the nicest dorms I've ever seen actually. Said hello to a few players at the student center. At the very end, we talked to Coach (Scott) Frost and the defensive coordinator, Coach (Erik) Chinander, just talking to me and my family."

UCF is off to a blazing start in recruiting with 14 commitments, but they're still looking for a couple more versatile defensive linemen. Cholewa, who is 6-foot-7 and 265 pounds, would fit that bill.

"They told me I was very athletic, they like my height, how big I am and how I use my hands," Cholewa said. "They run a three-front. They said I could move to play a nose or any of the d-end spots. It doesn't matter. It's just how I develop."

After the visit, what does he like the most about UCF?

"The coaches," Cholewa said. "Definitely the coaches. I like them a lot. I like what they're doing with the program. I think they're going to have a big year this year."

Cholewa believes he's going to stick with his original plan of committing before the season. He prefers not to name a favorites list, but the final decision could come down to UCF, Temple, Syracuse, Iowa State, Toledo, Kent State and Bowling Green.

He plans to major in criminal justice.

Update: Cholewa announced his commitment to UCF 24 hours later.
